Launched at our 2025 AGM at The Village Hall, Littleport, was our brand new publication – a research feat by our Secretary John Goodge.
The book, available to buy now in paperback, documents the 38 (!!) public houses within Littleport. John has carefully researched each one – finding information about its proprietors, census returns, newspaper articles, old photographs, and locating those whose buildings remain standing today.
On writing the book, John explained:
“Many of the younger generation might wonder why, in Littleport, we have street names like Globe Lane, Granby Street and Anchor Court where the meaning has been lost in time. It is hoped that this book will explain why and enable people to connect with the history of Littleport and its pubs and obtain a better understanding of the times past.”
John admits that the history of Littleport’s pub is unlikely to be complete, “there will be much more relevant information hidden in archives and collections which so far has not been retrieved for inclusion in the book. Further investigation and research will continue forever.”

After a short talk about his book at the AGM, it’s already been selling fast, with a queue of people eagerly waiting for him to sign their copies.
It is the perfect book for those who remember drinking in Littleport, or those interested in researching local or family history.
